How to Show Up in ChatGPT as a Carpet Cleaner
To show up in ChatGPT as a carpet cleaner, your website first has to be reachable by OpenAI’s search crawler. OpenAI documents a crawler called OAI-SearchBot that is used for ChatGPT search, and says a site must not block it to appear in those results. Everything after that is the same discipline that earns visibility anywhere: clear pages, accurate details and honest proof. OpenAI does not publish ranking rules, and no one can promise a mention. This guide covers what you can control and how to check it.
InMotion DMA floor-care ad data at a glance (Source: InMotion DMA client data, 2019-2026):
- 300+ floor-care companies served across 41 states
- 87,000+ tracked lead opportunities
- $7.5M+ in client revenue generated
- $12.56 blended cost per lead; about $21 to book a job at a ~60% booking rate
- $175 average job ticket
“I am booked out for the next two weeks. I couldn’t be happier, my phone rings every day.”

Which OpenAI crawlers matter for a carpet cleaning website?
OpenAI’s documentation separates its automated agents by purpose, and the difference matters because you can treat them differently.
- OAI-SearchBot is the crawler for search. OpenAI says sites that want to appear in ChatGPT search results should not block it.
- GPTBot is the crawler used for training. OpenAI says it is independent of OAI-SearchBot, so allowing search does not require allowing training.
- ChatGPT-User visits pages when a person asks ChatGPT to open a link or browse. OpenAI notes robots.txt rules may not apply to it the way they do to its crawlers.
If you are comfortable being found, the simplest setup is to allow all three. If you prefer not to contribute to training, you can allow OAI-SearchBot and disallow GPTBot. That is a business decision, not a ranking trick.
How do you check that your site is not blocking ChatGPT?
Check two layers, because either can block access.
- Read your robots.txt. Open yourdomain.com/robots.txt. Make sure there is no rule that disallows OAI-SearchBot, and no blanket rule that blocks every crawler from your service pages.
- Check your firewall, security plugin and CDN. Bot protection can challenge or block crawlers even when robots.txt allows them. Ask your host or developer to confirm OAI-SearchBot is not being blocked.
OpenAI says robots.txt changes can take about 24 hours to be reflected. Allowing access removes a barrier. It does not earn a place in an answer.
What makes a carpet cleaning page easy for ChatGPT to quote?
OpenAI does not publish a checklist, so treat this as practical writing discipline rather than a formula. Pages that tend to be easy for any system to understand share a few traits:
- A direct answer in the first lines. If the page is about pet stain removal, say what you do and for whom before anything else.
- Specific, checkable facts. Service area, what is included, how drying works, real ranges for pricing where you can state them.
- Consistent business details. The same name, phone, service area and hours on your site and your Google Business Profile.
- Real proof. Named customer quotes and numbers you can verify, with the source stated.
- Questions phrased the way customers ask them. Headings written as the question, followed by a plain answer.
Our broader guide to AI search optimization for carpet cleaners covers what Google says is and is not required, since the same fundamentals apply across assistants.
How do you track whether ChatGPT mentions you?
There is no official report that tells you how often ChatGPT mentions your company, so use a simple manual log.
- Pick five to ten questions a homeowner in your area would ask.
- Ask them in ChatGPT on a set day each month.
- Record the date, the exact prompt, whether your business appears and how it is described.
- Compare month over month.
Treat this as a spot check. Answers differ by person, by location and by day, so one result means little. Look for direction over several months. Your web analytics may also show visits referred from AI assistants, which is a useful second signal.
What can no one promise about ChatGPT?
A mention, a position or a timeline. OpenAI does not publish how answers are chosen, so anyone selling a guaranteed spot is promising something they do not control. We do not make that promise and we do not publish a timeline or a conversion number for this work because we do not have measured ones.
What can be promised is the process: a site that crawlers can reach, accurate details, honest proof and new useful content every week, reviewed by a person before it goes live.
How does InMotion DMA help with this?
We build the carpet cleaner’s website and run a weekly content process on it, the same approach we use on our own site. A bot watches the site’s analytics every day and suggests each week’s new page from real search terms, search volume, the owner’s priority services and average ranking positions. A person reviews every page before it goes live. You can see how it works on our AI search website for carpet cleaners page.
Our core work is still paid advertising, and ads and organic work best as two lanes; see how to scale your carpet cleaning marketing. Facebook ads generate the leads and our sales automation and client rep setup turns them into booked jobs.
